The Advantages of Tritoon Boats

These large crafts are elaborate and clearly designed to hold a lot of people and a lot of cargo, which can be a great advantage if that’s what you’re after in a boat. Definition

As you might glean from the name, a tritoon is a descendant of the pontoon boat. These wide, large crafts have a flat deck supported beneath by two hollow aluminum tubes, called “pontoons.” Compare this in look to either a flat-bottom boat that rests directly on the water or a narrow V-hull craft, which is the most common style.The tritoon, by contrast, inserts a third hollow tube in the middle. This allows the boat to be much larger in size.  

Staying Balanced & Buoyant

The addition of that third tube also allows tritoons to be much more buoyant, sitting higher in the water and able to ride over some of the chop that would make a pontoon stumble. You’ll get better performance and higher speeds on a much more stable surface. The center tube makes rough water easier to get through, so a windy day won’t be as much of a challenge for a tritoon as it would a pontoon.
